The first large area of boulders you pass by when approaching from the road. Now more of a "clearcut", as many of the boulders are surrounded by tall, dense brush.

You will use a different approach depending on which side of the clearcut you are going to. See directions on the individual pages or pick up a copy of the excellent 'Western Washington Bouldering' which makes navigating Gold Bar much easier.

Getting There

Approach as for the 5-Star Boulder, but continue on the trail uphill until you run into a recent clearcut. Bushwhack uphill and across the clearcut until you hit the main gravel road. Follow this road uphill until you eventually run into a fork. A right will get you to the eastern areas, a left will get you to the western areas.

Getting to the bouldering areas Clearcut and The Forest requires a 3 mile hike; there are no longer parking areas close by, and haven't been for what appears to be quite some time.

From the turn off of Reiter Road, hike under the power lines and up the old road for 3 miles of gradually climbing switchbacks. There is a major fork in the trail at the top of a switchback -- to continue to The Forest/eastern Clearcut (Que Luna, Fraggle Rock), go right at the fork; to continue to western Clearcut/western Forest, go left at the fork. There is a trail through the woods that links the West Forest with East/The Sanctuary; route finding through Clearcut can be tricky

Ventured up to the forest and clearcut area, 3/31/2016. ClearCut boulders is no longer in a "clear cut" a lot of foliage has grown, especially the thorn bushes. Be careful.
