South facing wall with high quality rock and high density of great climbs. Protection is plentiful on single and multipitch routes that currently fall more into the moderate range of difficulty. Potential for more development.

Getting There

Turn onto John Smith road from 297 and drive back until you reach a gravel area to park at the head of the John Smith trail. Hike the John Smith Trail for 0.7 miles and then bear right onto River Trail East. Take this trail for a little over a mile, passing two large culverts as you get close to the wall. The trail will bend sharply left and narrow substantially just afterthe second culvert. Head uphill at this bend before the trail narrows. Pass a boulderfield while keeping the drainage to your right. Upon reaching the wall, head left to find the routes.

Follow the dihedral past a couple of bulges for 70 feet using smeary stems and slopy face holds when appropriate. Make a burly move at the end of the dihedral through a small roof to gain a ledge. Rest up for the finish as you summon your TWall roof skills. Gun through the flake and stacked roofs to the finish. In the summer, the dihedral may be guarded by a squadron of large, white, paratrooping spiders. Warn your belayer as you desperately cling with handjams as you pray the spiders don't lan...[more]   Browse More Classics in Tennessee

If you're skeptical of all the stars, keep in mind that we're cleaning up all the obvious classics first. ;-)

I don't know that these are FA's people have been climbing from Mill/Blevins creek to Angel falls since the 80's. I know of at least three groups who climbed in that section of the park.

There isn't any published FA data on mountain project or dixie cragger for this area, or anywhere else I could find. No indication at the wall either. Not to say they haven't been climbed before, there is obviously no way to truly know that. These routes are being posted so others can enjoy them.

Yup, if these aren't FAs, this provides a great opportunity for the first ascentionist to document their ascent. It wouldn't be the first time. ;-) Either way, they're high quality routes - go enjoy them when you get a chance!
