BETA PHOTO: Hiking route to Cholla Mountain climbs

Therei is a lot of granite here it is just whether it is good quality rock or not, phoenix rock 2 gives you all of the route descriptions and how to get there. This place does not get much traffic. The best time to come here is the fall trhough spring although it may be cold in the shade somethimes

Getting There

From the 101 go north on scottsdale road to dynamite road, continue onthis untill you reach 118th street, turn left and continue on road untill you reach the parking lot, do not turn on powerline road.

Update Nov. 2014: The access info above is now out of date. In order to climb at Cholla Mountain now, you have to hike a LOT farther than you used to. The two access points for this area are now 1) Brown's Ranch Trailhead or 2) The Granite Mountain Trailhead. Both of these are quite a ways from Cholla Mountain, so be prepared to hike at least a couple of miles to get to the nearest parking to get to any climbing.

Map here showing the location of the two trailheads in relation to Cholla Mountain:

Slabby granite characteristic of this area, the crux seems to be areas where there are no real hands or feet just below that second bolt. Follow the streak right up the middle past a couple of large dark knobs....[more]   Browse More Classics in Arizona
