Feb '07. Approaching the final bulge.

Yield to mining vehicle traffic MORE INFO >>>

This is a Skylight area climb. It is in the next slot downhill from Chockstone Chimney. There are 2 variations. The left variation is a short, nice slab to tree rappels. The right variation is harder.

Screws and lack of brains.

This is a great route for the grade. The position and views are awesome.

The left hand route is about 60m from the base to the belay tree, so it is a full pitch.

In Feb '07 there was a middle section that was too thin to protect with screws, and there were no rock placements (not even knifeblades). I got in a pretty good cam just below this section, and there was enough ice for decent pick placements, so it was OK.

After that there is a big snow shelf and a fun steep bulge at the very top, where you'll find a tree equipped with slings and rings.

In February '06, the topout was sunhit very early, and I pulled the bulge on slush and turf sticks with no appreciable pro. Get on this one early.

Good varied route, climbs better than it looks from the road. We did the left variation, and found the upper bulge to be quite steep, with thin ice and limited protection in spots. Steeper than it looks from the base. Cool mix of steep snow, neve, and some fun stemming moves up top. 60m double ropes get you to the road.
