  • Description

To the right of Pine Tree Route is a deep chimney that is maybe a little better than it looks. It protects well and could be a good chimney lead for someone looking to practice such things. It is not listed in any of my guidebooks, so I have simply called it "Chimney" here.

Scramble up the deep cleft into the chimney. Climb past some chockstones placing pro in cracks inside the chimney and then mantle out of the left side to reach the tree at the top of Pine Tree Route.

Approach via the aqueduct as for Pine Tree Route. This route is about 15' to the right.

Descend as for Pine Tree Route.

Standard rack up to a #3 Camalot.

Led this yesterday. Interesting route that gets harder the higher you go. Found the last 10 feet of the chimney to be very awkward. My second said she saw a snake in the lower portion of the route in the cleft leading up to the main chimney.

Snakes, yikes! I hate snakes when I'm climbing. That said, I didn't find this one too awkward, it does get tougher as the chimney constricts near the top. Glad to see someone did this route; I thought it was a nice change of pace for Boulder Canyon.
