Description

This is a large sandy wash near that intersects with chimney rock canyon. There are several large sandstone boulders that have fallen from adjacent cliffs. The sand in the bottom of the was provides decent landings. This is convenient seeing as carrying a crash pad all the way in wouldn't be a ton of fun. However, a crash pad may be desired for some of the unexplored boulders. This area is for the most part unexplored. There are many more boulders and many more difficult problems to be found.

Getting There

Once in Capitol Reef National Park park at the Chimney Rock Trailhead. It is located a couple miles north of the visitors center on highway 24. From the trailhead, hike up the steep switchbacks and follow the left fork. The right fork will also get you there but it will take a little longer. From here, hike until there is a signed intersection. Follow the signs to lower spring canyon. Once on this trail the area is located to the left of the trail in an obvious large wash. All told the hike is between a mile and a mile and a half.

A large boulder with many well-placed pockets for rightwards movement to the top. The start has some tricky feet unless you're tall. The topout is slightly outward-angled and pretty precarious- trust yer mantlin'....[more]   Browse More Classics in Utah
