Description

This crag is just to the right of tunnel #5 when you are facing east on U.S. 6. It is approached from the trail to Catslab. You take the Catslab approach trail for less than a minute before heading up the hill to the left (east). The rock gets morning shade and afternoon sun. It is typical Clear Creek rock. The Dog House is to the north, and the Catslab is to the south.

Follow the black bolts and jugs over a v-shapped notch in the right side of a wide overhang. Head up a rounded arête angling slightly to the left. Watch out for the runout between the 4th and 5th bolt. A few optional gear placements exist in this easy section if you need them (0.3 to 0.5 Camalots). There is another fun overhang at the 6th bolt. 2 more clips lead to a nice stance and the anchor....[more]   Browse More Classics in Colorado

I climbed these routes today, and while the rock quality wasn't very good, I had a fun time. Most of the routes have 1 or maybe 2 star movement with a 1/2 star rock quality. Definitely better than they look from the trail, but not worth the effort if you haven't exhausted everything else. Into the Black has a fun, kinda reachy, crux down low.

Awesome! I've thought about bolting this way for 10 years! Glad someone motivated and got it done! Thanks for your efforts, Jay.

Just to clarify, the Cats vs. Dogs wall is not closed at the moment (6/12/14). I was a bit confused when I saw the gate and the big closed sign, but you can keep walking to just before the tunnel to access this climb and the other climbs on Cats vs Dogs.

Movement is fun. Rock quality is iffy. A great wall to get some mileage in on moderates.

We did all the routes rated 10b and easier today, and all have cleaned up nicely from the previous times I have been here. Fun moderate routes in a nice setting for CCC.
