Description

Sunny all day. Secluded with no evidence of prior climbing. Rock is nice granite with brittle exfoliation layer (watch your feet, should improve with more ascents). Climbs are all 200' or less.

Getting There

From Chilkoot Lake parking (for low clearance 2WD) walk up the obvious 4x4 trail until you reach Chilkoot Lake. If the lake is dry, follow the trail across the lake bed reaching a campsite on the far side. Pass through the campsite to an obvious vehicle turnaround. There is a small creek here. Take a left on the creek heading towards a water level monitoring station. Stay in this creek until to you reach an obvious low angle dome on your right. The climbs are the steepest part of this dome.

Climbing Season

For the Shuteye Ridge area.

Look for the obvious right leaning arch and find the left facing dihedral to the right of the arch. The climb heads up the slab just right of this dihedral into a left leaning hand crack. The first pro is here and the crux is moving over a slight bulge into the crack. Trend up and left to a small ledge. Head up the slab trending left of a small roof. A 5.easy crack heads to a large belay ledge with a good crack for gear to the climbers right....[more]   Browse More Classics in CA
