BETA PHOTO: Caroline's Crack, a great 5.7 warm-up.

This climb follows the hand crack behind a flake that is located to the right of obvious OW crack (Caroline's Offwidth). Begin with ledgy blocks, and follow into sweet hand crack surrounded by good feet and rests. A subtitle crux move is near the top before the crack joints suddenly left to the anchor ledge.

This route is located directly across the river from the Box Elder Campsite. It's on the far looker's left of the buttress or "Whiskey Wall".

Hand-size cams and a two bolt chain anchor up top.

I climbed this in 2012. I took it left to a ledge that had a sling wrapped around a horn which we replaced and rapped from. Was that your old tat from the FA? The same day I also climbed a route that was about the same height and about 60' to the right. It went into a cool wide pod with ribs in it to thin hands at a small roof and finished with cupped hands to pins and slings right of the crack. Was this one yours too?
My friends have climbed (FA) the the two taller cracks on the wall. One is right of Caroline's Crack maybe 10-20 feet, it is tall and has Metolius rap hangers near the top of the cliff. The other one is to the right of the route with the "pins and slings" maybe another 50 ft. It is tall too (but not as) and has slings and hangers for the anchor. I can't speak for the quality of them, for I have not climbed them and the FA barely remembers anything, he just showed me his anchors.
We called this wall the "Whiskey Wall" and the campground side of the river was "Box Elder Buttress". We didn't start putting routes in the Dolo till around 2006 though.
Thanks for sharing info and history.

Hey Scott,

Thanks for the info and updates. I did climb Caroline's Crack in like 2001 or so in honor of my niece Caroline who was in surgery at the time of the ascent. I didn't look for my or your slings, because I was placing a newer bolted anchor. We should talk soon though, and I think the Whisky Wall is a great name...I was just trying to come up with something when updating MP the other day. We should talk soon, and maybe you could add the other routes you know of here. I noticed some others across the road from there too that were newer. People were climbing on them this past Sunday.
Also, do you know about that crack that leads off from the Caroline ledge? I was hoping to hit that up the next time I'm down's a hand crack and a OW pod, and it goes for some 70 feet on the wall just around the corner from Caroline's. You should be able to link it in the same pitch once we get it figured out.

Call me some time so we can talk. 970 799 3219

I intended to do that wide crack around the corner, to the top, but it never worked out. It looks like it will be tougher but very doable. Have fun with it. I will give you a call sooner than later.
