I'm taking some people up camping near Montezuma this weekend. They drive sedans so we'll be meeting in Montezuma and then heading up near Webster pass after in my vehicle. Does anyone have any recomendations on overnight parking in the area? It would probably be a total of 3 cars.
I've camped pretty much at the base of the crag on the backside and left my car at the normal pull-out overnight with no issues. There were some locals up there that thought it was cool that people were up there hanging out. It would be hard fitting two tents up there though. There might be some spots just as you start up at the base of the trail.
Are you trying to camp along Webster's Pass or closer to the crags just outside of Keystone. Either way, options are plenty as long as you don't arrive too late.
Camping at the crag itself is cool, but probably your last option. The climb up there is very steep (albeit short). But the real draw back is that there isn't really enough climbing up there to justify it (unless your with beginners or a beginner yourself). The whole hill side can be climbed out in a short day.
If you do head up there: be sure to check out the lines waayyy up the hillside from Haus. There are two distinct areas waayyy up there.
Thanks for the information. I've camped up there before and climbed a bit but this trip I won't have too much time on the crag. I was more curious about overnight parking for my friends vehicles near montezuma. I'm assuming that parking would be okay right off Webster road if we found a flat spot but I didn't know if anyone had any experience with the issue. Thanks! Justin
You can park most everywhere. The smart thing to do would be to park by the residences at the base of the pass so you don't have to worry about any fishy business with the cars.
Never had any issues except for around the 2 or 3 No Parking signs in that whole area (posted by private individuals who will leave cordial notes on your car to bug off but never actually confront you or do any harm).
I appreciate the info. As it stands both pass roads still had the gates locked due to the late snow in the area this year...had to get creative and find a place to camp elsewhere this past weekend. I appreciate all the assistance.
