Description
This seaside area has a few top rope routes near the old Tektite wharf site. Like Ram Head, there's a lot of junky rock on Cabritte Horn, but there are a few sections of decent rock.
Getting There
Park at the Tektite trailhead parking area. Follow the Tektite trail past an old stone building (on the right side of the trail) to a trail intersection. Take the right fork (the left fork goes out to the end of Cabritte Horn). Follow the righthand trail down to its end, at the top of a cliff area overlooking the ocean. Take one of a couple social trails down through cactus and small cliff bands to the water. You should now see a big (30-40 foot high) boulder at the edge of the water. Once you get a top rope rigged, several lines can be done. There's also great snorkeling right in front of the boulder.
The cement steps and remnants in the area are from the Tektite underwater experiments done in the 1960s. These remnants should not be tampered with, as they are historic. If you haven't heard of the Tektite project, do an Internet search - it's pretty interesting!
