Description

The Cabinet Mountain Wilderness is located in Northwestern Montana. The range runs North and South for 40 miles, from the Kootenai River to the Clark Fork River. The highest peaks are Snowshoe Peak (8,738 ft), A Peak (8,634 ft), Bockman Peak (8,174 ft) and Elephant Peak. (7,938 ft). It is one of the wildest ranges in The Lower 48, and is home to wolves, grizzlies, wolverines, lynx, moose and elk. There is a good chance you'll go to sleep to sound of howling wolves in the distance if you climb here in the winter.

Currently, the Cabinets are home to a solid handful of moderate alpine rock routes and scrambles, but the potential for more is huge! If you want to get away from the crowds in the Cascades and Tetons, come climb here! The thrill of adventure climbing in the Cabinets is quite strong and you're guaranteed to have no one else on your route. In the winter, Snowshoe Peak has a solid dozen or so 3 to 5 pitch ice climbs which lie at the end of Leigh Lake. The climbing is amazing and all within the WI4 to WI5 range.

Getting There

Northern Access is from Hwy 2 near Libby. Southern Access is from Hwy 200 near Noxon.
