Hey, I don't know where to post this (i.e. is there an international site on the regional climbing)? I'm travelling to visit Buenos Aires in late March/early April 2010 and would like to try and climb outdoors NEAR B.A. if possible (Unfortunately I don't have enough time to travel to Patagonia and back in the time alotted). Does anyone have any suggestions on where to climb or where to "go" to seek advice? Any help would be GREATLY appreciated.

no specific advice on the climbing as that wasn't my focus, but PM for info on a good hostel and other things to see.

mendoza is closer than patagonia, has buses to and from BA, and is a great outdoor town.

Andrew: To my knowledge there is no climbing in the immediate vicinty of Buenos Aires, or even several hours' drive from BA. While there is lots of climbing to be had around Mendoza, Bariloche and further south in Patagonia, these destinations are a loooong way from BA. Unless you can't afford a plane ticket to such destinations, taking a bus to any of them would be a relatively painful and long ordeal. I believe Mendoza is about thirteen hours by bus from BA, but there is an overnight bus. One option to consider if you can't swing getting to Mendoza, Bariloche or Patagonia would be to modify your ticket to BA so that you can stop in Rio de Janeiro for a few days. There you will find really good multi-pitch rock climbing on big faces in one of the world's most spectacular settings.

Mendoza is one of the most beautiful places I've ever been, and not to be missed if you're in Argentina.

My Jonny picked up this climbing guide book before we had visited.

Have fun!

There is a nice outdoor gym/climbing wall at Peru Beach in San Isidro. Its a cool local hang out with alot of stuff to do, skate ramp, kite surfing, kayaking ,futbol, Inline Hockey rink, bar and resturaunt. My wife is from San Isidro and everytime i visit the family i go there to get my climbing fix, not much else near BA. Nice steep walls and a good bouldering cave.
I think there is some bouldering around Mar del Plata, but thats 4 hours away. There is another outdoor wall next to the River futbol stadium, but i think its part of a private club.
Hope this helps.

There actually is rock climbing not too far from Buenos Aires, in Mar Del Plata. I believe the name of the area is Sierra De Los Difuntos.

This link gives maps and photos of the area.

It has been a while, but I remember most of the climbing being sport, and generally fun.

Or just check or that other site for more crags nearby:
