BETA PHOTO: The "5.9 Wall" at brush lake.

Description

The high quality granite boulders and short walls surrounding Brush Lake provide entertainment for all levels of climbers. There is surprising quantity of variety in the types/styles of climbs. The "5.9 wall" has climbs for first timers and families. Easily accessed top anchors, and friendly bolted routes make this wall appealing. Most climbs face east for great morning sun and afternoon shade. Steep walls are nearby in the woods. The Bouldering is some of the best rock and scenery with the longest climbable season in north idaho. The mosquitoes can carry you off if recently hatched in the summer! Cell phone service is marginal and likely to go to cell towers in Canada...

Getting There

Drive north of Bonners Ferry on Hwy 95 for approximately 16 miles. Just South of mile marker 524 on the right (east) is the potholed gravel/(old pavement) road signed "Brush Lake". Continue straight at all major road intersections 2 miles off Hwy 95 towards brush lake boat ramp. Park at multiple trailhead parking lot, or lower small (2car) trailhead at hairpin turn at the lake. For both options follow the Wetland trail #376 5-10minutes. The "5.9 wall" is in a clump of trees above the wetland trail. If you reach the platform that marks the end of the wetland trail go back 100yds and look up the hill to the west. Some of the best boulders are below the brush lake road and above the intersection of Hwy 95 and Hwy 1. (please respect nearby private property near the highway and don't trespass.)
