Description

This is a unique addition to the Natural Bridge climbing area, with a handful of short slab sport pitches, which are south-facing and in the sun most of the day. The wall is beautiful, gray and blue-streaked limestone that starts almost every climb with some nice, steep and thin boulder moves into a bulge that rounds out onto extended slab and a gentle top out to the chains. Beware: the climbing here is heady, and some holds may break; it seems to be very rarely climbed.

The whole area is approximately 100 yards wide, and it may be accessed by continuing on the well-marked Green Mountain trail (right, off the trail to the Foyer, before you start descending). Seeing as it's National Forest, the meadow here would be a money camping spot; I can't wait to do a long weekend here, incorporating the Mile 18 boulders one afternoon.

The closest beer is the bar on the drive in, some 10 miles back toward Big Timber. I've heard good things, especially if you're from Philadelphia.

Getting There

Take the trail from the Natural Bridge parking lot, across the river, and turn right onto the Green Mountain trail at the well-marked fork (there is a sign that says "Green Mountain," not the first right turn on the trail). From there, follow the trail back to the north some few hundred yards of ascent, and you will top out before a brief switchback heading south into the Blueberry Wall meadow. Beautiful. The climbing is on your right, on the blue-streaked, limestone hog's back.

Stud Muffin 5.11c 6c+ 24 VIII- 24 E4 6a  Montana : Natural Bridge and Falls : Blueberry Wall
This is a fun start, out the small roof, with a powerful, thought-provoking sequence. As with most of the climbs on this wall, the crux is at the beginning. Stiff bouldering leads to some face climbing that finishes easily into the chains....[more]   Browse More Classics in Montana
