Black Hills climbing legend dies
|
It is with great sadness to inform everyone that Black Hills climbing & spelunking legend Herb Conn passed away on 02-01-12. He was 91 years old. Herb requested no services. He was a very gentle & humble person whom was always willing to share beta, maps or a story. May God bless... R.I.P. Herbie. My prayers go to his wife Jan. |

More on Herb here: |

I have climbed a handful of Conn routes in and around Black Hills/Custer SP. I found everyone to be fun, bold, and unique in a world where many moderates just start to blend. |

No one can go on forever, but still, what a loss, and what a legacy. Eric Sutton's two word summary in the East Gruesome register says it best, "Damn, Herb!". |

Wish I had met him. First Multi-pitch I ever did was the Conn Diagonal on the Outer Outlet. Have two soft Iron ring angles that I pulled out the route by hand in 1980 or so. Pretty sure the Conns placed them. Pretty impressive pair of climbers. |
