Echo Canyon Seasonal Closure: Jan. 1 - second Saturday in April MORE INFO >>>

This is the big prominent buttress directly across from the rest stop over on the freeway. It is most popular for base jumping, and is simply known as the "Echo Exit." On the far left toward the impressive prow, this wall has some grafiti from the 1800's advertising to settlers for the "Salt Lake House". This historical site is known as the "Salt Lake House Billboard" -- thus "Billboard Wall". I believe this is the tallest wall in Echo, and "Gypsy Soul" the tallest route in Echo at 500' (5 pitches). The rock is loose, the views are great, and the passing trains thunder past. Right now very little established climbing -- some bolts on the prow, and "Gypsy Soul" going up the middle of the wall and moving to the prow at the top.

Getting There

1.59 miles past turning right onto the highway off of the exit. Base jumpers parking lot is at about 1.49 miles, but in order to access the climbing on this wall without trespassing, it is best to continue to the 1.59 mile mark, where there is a parking pull off. The trail up to Gypsy Soul is back towards the Exit about 300 ft from this parking lot.

Closely bolted due to the bouldery nature of the cruxes, and the questionable rock quality in places. This route is a great after work adventure. After pitches 2,3, and 4 you have to pick up your kit and walk to the left 30-100 meters on gigantic ledges to get to the next pitch. All this picking up kit and moving makes you feel like a gypsy on the move. Pitch 5 is the hi-light.Rack:18 draws: (10 short draws, 8 long or extendable draws)70 meter rope (or two 60 meter ropes) for rappelPitch 1: 5.11...[more]   Browse More Classics in Utah
