Hi! I'd love to do some more outdoor climbing in the Bay- sport or easy trad is best, but bouldering would also work. Because of an old car and little experience driving, what are the best places I can get to without scary, mountain driving? Pinnacles is on the list, what else?

Thanks!

Sugarloaf doesn't have too much mountain driving, also the consumnas river gorge is closer. The emeralds off of I 80 could work, also all the climbing in the Sonora area Xocomil

Castle Rock state park has roped climbing . It's not very tall , gets hot in the summer , and is often crowded, but you can easily get a day's worth of nice climbing in there . You can always just boulder as it's probably the best part of climbing there...

Mt. Diablo also has a few good routes . 'Amazing Face' is probably one of the top 3 pitches in the Bay Area ...

Actually , both these areas require some minor "mountain" road driving FYI

Rock Climbing Photo: Sunset out in St. Helena.
Check out St. Helena! Pretty easy drive, good scenery, and a good range of easy to moderate sport stuff. Can get a little hot at times though. Zac Smith

Alia, my sister and her husband are moderate climbers living in Oakland and they frequent Mt. Diablo. I don't remember the drive too much except that it was a little windy towards the end. It shouldn't be too bad for a new driver, though. Joshua D

Auburn Quarry has some fun sport and is a bit closer to the Bay than Sonora. Dan Austin

Way easier and more enjoyable to drive on mountain roads than in san francisco...
I hate driving in SF.

There's Indian Rock, Mortar Rock, Grizzly Peak, Little Yosemite, Remillard and Cragmont Parks in Berkeley to satiate your need to boulder. There's also some trad, sport and TR in Remillard and Cragmont. dylan grabowski
