Description

Bellicose Peak is one of the 21 7,000' peaks in Chugach State Park. It's remote nature and brooding demeanor give it a somewhat mysterious reputation.

Getting There

The fastest access is via Eklutna Lake and up the 'Freer's Tears' drainage (at the toe of Eklutna Glacier) to the valley beneath the Bellicose-Benign col.

Climbing Season

For the Anchorage & South Central Ice Climbing area.

Weather station 12.3 miles from here

The next 3 pitches follow water ice (WI 3+). The final section of the face follows steep snow up to 50 degrees. Once you top out on the face, follow the Shroud route to the summit. We descended the Shroud (on the Peter's Creek side of Bellicose) and wrapped around back and over the Bellicose-Benign col, back down to our base camp bel...[more]   Browse More Classics in Alaska
