Beginner's Crack area
Though a bit slippery at the bottom due to thousands of climber's soles, this large crack in the Beginner's alcove is a great first climb.
The Beginner's Area of Jungle Cliff is a large alcove between a huge tree and a large boulder in the ground slightly upstream from the descent. Beginner's Crack is the large fissure in the center of this alcove.
Trad: Stances are great, and the gear is there if you get inventive (vertical placements, in crack placements, deep cams).

Okay as a lead if you have big hexes or maybe some Big Bros. The crack/flake is too wide to accept most "regular" gear, and debate rages about whether cams are safe or not in this rock. I got a couple bigger hexes in earlier and some stoppers near the top, but I had to go runout for the middle. Easy route and a fall unlikely, but still.

Use extreme care with lead gear at Carderock. The Gniess is hard but brittle, and the irregularity of the rock means that most cams and nuts rarely set properly and are famous for ripping out and depositing their installer on the ground...
