Beaver Boulder Rock Climbing
Rock art at the Gram Parsons shrine, Joshua Tree N...
Beaver Boulder is the very large boulder on the north side of Cap Rock. Three aid routes and one free route are located on the rock. There are bolts at the top of all three aid routes to set up an anchor on, and there are chains and rappel rings on top of RURP Romp
for an easy rappel.
The two more difficult aid routes on the rock rely of numerous fixed heads, many of which are very sketchy. Be aware that if some of these are missing you will need to bring some up with you in order to finish the climb... or to just to relace the ones that seem to have been there for 20 years.
Beaver Boulder is located in the southeast corner of the intersection of Quail Springs Road and Key's View Road. Park in the Cap Rock parking lot.

This route is located on the west face of Beaver Boulder. 3 fixed heads lead to the first bolt, then a another head and a rivet lead to the second bolt, followed by about 10 more moves off fixed heads. The last 5 or so moves are on micro nuts, RP's are very helpful. Most of the fixed heads seem pretty sketchy and there is a definite potential for a ground fall onto the rock below. If you do the route solo, your bottom anchor isn't that great, just a cordlette slung around the rock at the bottom,...[more] Browse More Classics in California
