Beaufort Buttress is one of the less committing areas to climb on Lundy. The approach doesn't require an abseil, and it can be accessed via a series of ledges at any state of the tide. It catches quite a lot of sun, but (like most of the island!) is very exposed to wind and high seas. There is a decent selection of single-pitch trad routes from about 5.5 to 5.9, mostly worthwhile but by no means Lundy classics.

Getting There

The buttress is located about half way between halfway wall and threequarter wall. Walk out along the headland, staying on the North side. Descent stepped grassy slopes until the terrain gets more rocky. Some 4th class descending is required to reach the bottom of the buttress. At low tide you can go all the way to the bottom, but it is more normal to traverse in along non-tidal ledges at about 10m.
