Great beginner sport climbing area with many climbs from 5.8 -5.10. Throughout the day areas can change from sunny to shady so plan accordingly. Climbs have lots of interesting features like single finger pockets. At times it can be crowded due to the proximity to Bozeman and it's short hike.

Getting There

From downtown Bozeman drive east on Main and merge onto the highway. Travel about 3 miles until you reach the Bear Canyon exit ramp. After exiting the highway take a right and then a quick left up towards Bear Canyon, follow this road for about 5 minutes until you reach the end/parking area. Hike up past Bear Canyon ski hill and continue on the trail for about 10 min. After a camp spot look for a small trail on your left. Cross the creek on a large log and you should be right near the climbs.

High Tide 5.11 6c+ 23 VIII- 23 E4 5c  Montana : Bear Canyon : Tsunami Area
Situated in a little gully directly above Tsunami (11b), access is easiest from the left side of the main Tsunami formation, through about 50 feet of steep loose trail. This little route consists of surprisingly good pockets in a sea of choss. Though nothing too special, is a worthwhile route if you are already in the area. The route starts steep on a pinch and smaller pockets, then evens out just over vertical on nice big jugs. This route has seen maybe 3 or 4 ascents so be mindful of loose and...[more]   Browse More Classics in Montana
