BD Hoodwire biner?
|
anyone used these? looks...interesting. Wiregate with the snaglessness of a keylock? |
|
They're pretty nice. I just built up my new quickdraws with them for the bolt end. They have a slightly smaller opening than the new hotwire, but I think the "keylock" functionality is nicer to have. They're also not quite as nice (or light) as the Wild Country Helium biners, but they're also less expensive. |

The hoodwires are nice but the new Petzl angie looks even better. They are lighter and could either be great or awfull with the single wiregate. |

anybody have a side by side against the Helium? It seems like the first real competition to come along since the DMM Shield. |

Hoodwire 37g 24kn closed, 8kn open, 8kn minor axis. 24mm gate opening. $8.95 |

I picked up a few interested in putting them up against the WC Helium. Seem nice, a tad heavier but less expensive too. My one concern is the fact that the "hood" looks like a formed sprung steel that's pined into the main body. Not sure how well and/or the possibility of it becoming loose and possibly damaging the rope? Seems small but its a thought none the less. |

The Helium is still the best, both in specs (open gate!) and finish. The Hoodwire is a nice option though and a good price point. The Nose area on both is about the same. Not as narrow as some. I'm curious how the Ange will stack up with the Mono Wire. When it all shakes out I suspect it will go like this: DMM Alpha Wire, WC Helium, Petzl Ange, BD Hoodwire (Top to Bottom). Mind you they're all or will be good biners. Helium vs Hoodwire Helium and Hoodwire Gates and Nose |
