Description

Banyan Tree Pillar is a heavily featured (by Indian granite standards) tower with a handful of high-quality two-pitch trad routes. Descent is a rappel off the top from slings.

Edit: There is now a pair of bolts with rap rings. A single 60 m rope should get you down the backside, from where you walk right and descend the trail around the tower, back to the approach trail.

Getting There

See map for location. Park at 12.90399 N, 77.29062 E, and hike up about a quarter mile. Pillar location:12.90616 N, 77.28969 E

Louvre 5.9 5c 17 VI 17 HVS 5a  Asia : India : ... : Banyan Tree Pillar
Louvre, in my opinion, is one of the finest climbs in Southern India. A beautiful, two pitch crack system that takes you to a picturesque summit. P1: 5.9, 100 ft - follow the sustained hand crack up to the tree and belay from there. P2: mostly 5.7, 100 ft - head up from the tree along the hand crack; after you pull over the first lip, the grade eases and makes for a very pleasant romp to the top. At the roof, about 25 ft below the top, step right to the crack, plug some gear and finish...[more]   Browse More Classics in International
