RAIN AND WET ROCK The sandstone in Red Rocks is fragile and is very easily damaged when it is wet. MORE INFO >>>

Description

This tall, north-facing wall is directly across the canyon from Olive Oil on Rose Tower.

Getting There

Hike toward Juniper Canyon and turn right (west) to enter the narrow canyon leading up to the base of Olive Oil. Continue past the base of Olive Oil for another 50 yards or so, then move left through an area of heavy brush to a narrow saddle in the thin ridge which splits the canyon. As soon as you cross the saddle, turn right and climb up a short distance to a vertical chimney tunnel. Scramble through this. Aquarium and its adjacent routes are directly across the canyon. Alternatively, continue upstream to reach several other routes.

Climbing Season

For the Juniper Canyon area.

Climb the varnished crack to the major chimney. The direct start is hard (5.10?) but there are easier variations on the adjacent face. Three pitches up the chimney system lead to an exit on the right. The fourth pitch continues straight up the rounded buttress above, passing a few delicate moves to a belay stance near an obvious diagonal crack. Go right along the diagonal, then up to a small stance on the side of a chimney. A long pitch up the chimney leads to the top. (The last pitch is a...[more]   Browse More Classics in NV
