David Robb's new Ogden area guide has a whole chapter on Causey. I think the newer Northern Utah areas guide may also include Causey, but I am not sure of that. On Rockclimbing.com I think there may be directions and if I remeber correctly Dr. Topo has a mini-guide to Causey online, but it may be a bit old. Hope that helps. Jim
The Northern Utah climbing guide (mostly Logan Canyon) has directions and topos for most areas. I'd be willing to type up the directions if you want, but you'll have to get topo on your own.
I was up at Causey about a month ago. I was just scouting routes; I had never checked out the climbing up there and was looking for a cooler place to climb in the hot temps. [I think I had the Ogden area guide book]
I found the trail to be progressively overgrown but passable. You get to spots on the trail that the weeds are so high you're sure nobody has hiked the trail in a long time--and you're not sure you're going the right way. But after a few minutes of body slamming the tall plants, the trail is visible once again.
Leaving the trail to get to the bottom of the routes was VERY sketchy. There aren't any smaller trails leading off toward the climbing routes. You just have to bush-whack. I did find one cairn that was mentioned in the book at one point, but there was a bunch of down trees and brush beyond it....so I might as well have reset the cairn in a different spot.
I also ran into two rattlesnakes beside or on the main trail, so I was in no mood to go bushwacking through the brush where I couldn't see my feet.
If people climbed up there more often, perhaps things wouldn't be so overgrown......some major trail maintenance is in order. And BTW it was still very hot, even though the elevation is higher up there.
