Description

One of the more random Bear Canyon crags, this area still gets its fair share of visits. This wall is further up the canyon from the main crag and currently has two easier sport routes. The rock here is of decent quality and more if a low angle face than its neighbors. Expect a longer approach than the main crag, as it sits alone, and well to the west. Home to two moderate lines, this quiet little crag is still worth a visit.

Getting There

Take the main trail up the canyon. Continue on the main trail past where you would cross the log bridge to the main crag. After the real bridge (still on the main trail), continue about half a mile. After a steep dip in the trail, turn left onto a foot path (photo in photos section of this page) for several hundred feet. Take a fairly-obvious fork in the path, going uphill to the right, and follow it to the face. If you reach a big cave from the original footpath, you went way too far. The fork you need to take comes before the footpath gets really terrible.

Climbing Season

For the Bear Canyon area.

These routes are described in Bozeman Rock Climbs under the Lower Bear Canyon Limestone area. These two climbs are on the Ant Wall. The left route is listed at 5.7 and the right route at 5.9.

The 5.7 on this wall is named "Bar Wrench Route" and the 5.9 is "The Ant Route"

Christopher, keep in mind that the goal of Mountain Project is to be a quality climbing route database with relevant descriptions and information.

If you haven't climbed a route simply do not submit it to MP.

Do not make up names for a route - "unknown" is not acceptable either

try to give accurate beta on protection. e.g. how many bolts.
-btw a you stated as pro "bolts to hangers". Well hangers are what you are clipping. "(#) bolts to chains" would be more appropriate.

I'm not trying to come of as a jerk and I'm not trolling you. I was just going to bring some beginners up here and noticed the quality of your submissions were very similar to past issues.

With that said thank you for your desire to contribute.

I went to the Ant Wall Yesterday, July 19th. I found that both the first and second bolts on both routes on the ant wall are gone. There are three bolts almost in a triangle around where the second bolt used to be on the right route "The Ant Route 5.9". Although they have no actual loops to clip into. Not sure what is going on here. I just climbed this area no more than a month ago and all the bolts were fine. Didn't feel comfortable skipping the first two bolts on the The Ant Route, could possibly have done the "Bar Wrench Route 5.7" but I didn't really want to risk it being my first climb of the day.
