Hello everyone, I just purchased some used alien cams from a fellow co-worker. I was trying to do some research on them and came across all the info regarding the CCH shutdown/recall/rebirth. The loop on a few of them has "2006 Mazzernew Pa." Are these considered "old", meaning, the ones that were recalled do to failure and QC/brazing issues? Or are they considered to be post recall? The trigger also has Alien CCH USA on the underside. Any feedback would be appreciated. Thanks all.
I rack up with those sizes if i know the history of use and date codes. but... off someones rack I would be careful and do some kind of pull test to see if failure could be initiated. With Such variable methods for failure, the heads could come of at 250lbs or at marginally below the rated strength. The best thing I could think of was to get into an over hanging crack with a good clean fall, and take a whip with a hard catch and a higher Fall Factor, with two equalized trust worthy units right by the Alien of dubious strength(and of course enough gear that even if your anchor blew you would not deck). Or, you could just ship them to Russ at Fish for the the price of a bottle of good Tequila and have him yank on them to half or 3/4 of the rated strength.
good luck with your aliens, I love mine I would not rack up with anything else, even if i got it for free.
