Description

All lined up in a row (more or less), the crags above Aicha offer a wide variety of climbing. The crags range in height from about 8 meters to 28 meters, and offer everything from cracks, slabs, pocketed vertical face and, of course, overhang. With over 400 routes spread across the ridge, you'll be kept busy for quite some time.

The Ansbacher Hütte can be used as your base during your visit: dav-ansbach.de/huetten/kletter... This large cabin sleeps up to 29 people, and is situated at the base of the ridge of the Aichaer Felsen.

Getting There

The GPS coordinates indicated the parking area. If you're going old-school and don't want to use those, get off the A9 at Ingolstadt-Nord (exit 61) and go towards Burger King to get on the B13 (Römerstraße). Follow this road West out of the city (2nd exit out of the big roundabout by the mall) for nearly 20km until you reach Pietenfeld (shortly before Eichstätt). Shortly after Pietenfeld there's an exit from the B13 which leads to a roundabout. Take the first exit to Ochsenfeld. Follow the main road as it bends south to Biesenhard. Here the road will intersect with the Römerstraße (alternatively, you could try to just stay on this road from Ingolstadt as it's actually more direct). Go right on it towards Wellheim but take the first road to the right (there's a sign that says "Klettergarten" which means "Climbing Garden") and leave the Römerstraße to travel to Aicha. The roads here feel a bit backwoods, but you're on the right path. Upon reaching Aicha you'll see some horses and a bus stop. Turn into the village at this bus stop and follow the road to the left past the restaurant "Gasthaus Klettergarten". Keep following it as it bends right and goes uphill to lead you to the parking lot at the Kletterheim Aicha.
The crags are a short hike up the hill.
