The Acid Test Boulder is home to one gnarly-looking overhanging crack. It is one of the more beautiful looking boulder problems that I have seen. There may be possibility for other problems on this boulder, but the crack on the left side is the most obvious. It is possible to set up a toprope either by using a tree on top or by setting up a gear anchor with large cams.

Getting There

From the store at Sylvan Lake, walk down the trail for a short ways towards the Outlets. Watch for the boulder to your left up the hill. Almost immediately, hike up the hill to the base. This boulder is very close to one of the lodge's buildings.

About half way up the crack, there is an outcropping of crystals to the left. You can crimp on one of those to re-situate yourself. Lay into the final finger crack and either crimp or palm your way to the top....[more]   Browse More Classics in South Dakota

Acid Test is spectacular steep crack climbing starting with hands, then fingers and ending with sequential face for the last move. The jamming can be painful and technical but I love that kind of stuff. This is a needles crack that you don't face climb around.
