Description

~80 ft cliff across the Merced river, 100 yards upstream from River Boulder. Shade in the morning until 1 pm.

Easy access with low water.

That this area was developed 30 years ago, and two routes we were thinking we did FA, in fact was climbed in 1982. For some reasons this cliff was omitted in 1994 guide, but was in 1987 guide book (see enclosed page)

There was no sigh of FA at all. No bolts, slings. Routes was covered with moss, dirt and poison oak.

Getting There

Drive 1.2 miles from Arch Rock Entrance, pass River Bolder and park at paved pull out on river side. Cross the river and you at the base of the Cliff.

Climbing Season

For the Lower Merced River Canyon area.

Start hand-jams around the flake than feet traverse to the obvious leaning left-leaning tight hands/finger crack. When crack diminishing - some holds appears which lead you to the bolted anchor with tricky mantel move. You clip quickdraw to the anchor and do the hardest move....[more]   Browse More Classics in California
