Description

Overall facing NW.

Top-Roping: Shortest access is to hike/scramble West (Right) roughly horizontal to the base of the right-most route ("Right Scramble"). Then step right to the right side of the boulder to some broken rock (cairn as of 2016). Make a low class 5 move to start scrambling up diagonal Left (SE) about 100 feet, then traverse East until can scramble down to the top of your desired climbing route.

warning: The rock in this sector has not been climbed much yet, and much of the rock is still breakable and loose -- so the belayer and other people should stand far away from underneath the climber.

Just as we recognize the June Lake Loop as a little visit to Switzerland, so we see the rock of Rush as a taste of Swiss granite.
"Eldorado" is a higher altitude climbing area in the famous Grimsel valley granite region in the center of Switzerland. Known for slab routes.

Getting There

Follow the instructions on the Grimsel area description page to reach sector 2 Gerstenegg. Turn Right and hike up SW about 25 feet.
. (17-33 minutes approach via Log bridge)
. (12-21 minutes via Wading the creek)

Upper section is fun (wish it were longer), but start is a bit tricky or a bit awkward.Up the left side of the boulder, next trend right a bit higher. Next follow cracks diagonal left up through some small bushes -- choose whichever level on the cracks which seems most fun. Finish up to the high tree.Start Variation: Could also start up behind the right side of the boulder (low class 5).warning: The rock on and near this route has not been climbed much yet, and much of the rock is still b...[more]   Browse More Classics in California
