You better believe it! 27 mile crag is the place you want to be on a sunny afternoon. Stunning mountain and glacier views make this place dreamy. The rock here is quite good compared to some of the other choss piles around. This is probably my favorite place to climb in the Valdez area. Sweet!

Getting There

Head out of Valdez up to Thompson Pass. Park at the big pull out on the right at the 27 mile marker (Odyssey Lake). Walk across the road and aim for the streambed. Continue along the bed for about a quarter of a mile, and the crag will come into view on the left. Bring bug spray:)

This striking arete feature will likely be the first thing you notice. A hard move off the ground leads to a spectacular section of barn door laybacks. Finish up on cruiser jugs to a two bolt anchor. There is an enjoyable variation that breaks left to the anchor of Karen's Crack. Make sure to bring a couple runners for this. ...[more]   Browse More Classics in Alaska
