Have you tried Meetup?

Yes, it's called the pullout below the crag on a Saturday morning, and someone is brewing coffee...

Have you tried the alpine club?  There might be a chapter close to you.

unfortunately, i've been asking this same question lately, and meetup is dead. all the local outdoor meetups in boston only have the auto-scheduled events for gym climbing days. there used to be trips scheduled but it's a ghost town now.

lately i've had better luck joining the local university outdoor clubs. there's a large contingent of (post)grad students too so it's not just younger students.

This is what I did. Started climbing at the local university gym. Monthly rate was also a lot cheaper than the commercial gyms.

Strava is trying to be the social network for athletes but I'm not sure that anyone uses it for that purpose.. It is for tracking biking and running only, as far as I know.

Bummer! I haven't been to one in years but I used to go once or twice a month back in the day. Was a good way to meet people since I had just moved and didn't know anyone. Maybe you should start your own ;) (I would never do that, too much work lol)

try searching facebook for climbing groups, or better yet fill in your profile on the climbing site you are using.

How about doing your own meetup?  Or start a facebook group?  Or post on the bulletin board at your local REI/gym/outdoor retailer?

In So Cal here there are meetup groups that go outdoors, public Facebook groups, and lots of outdoor clubs that have socail media presence.
