Whats with the rope over the shoulder?

OK, so I realize that it's popular to say that a reboot of one of our childhood classics is ruining your childhood. This might be true in a lot of cases but with the Ninja Turtles, this couldn't be further from the truth.

For example, in the first movie we get an unexpectedly dark interpretation of the Turtles and 4 characters who are indistinguishable aside from their headbands and weapons. What the hell was the training montage on the run down farm anyway? We get to hear Rafael yell "damn!!" a few times though, that was pretty cool. In the sequel we get mutant monsters that aren't a rhino or warthog, a mutated shredder, and fucking Vanilla Ice.

Fast forward to my bald spot and greying beard. We now have 4 turtles who are different characters and a franchise about mutant ninja turtles that doesn't take itself too seriously. Very very rarely does a sequel outperform numero uno, we got it in T2 and ... honestly drawing a blank here. Maybe Die Hard. Well damn if the new sequel isn't the gosh-durned ninja turtle movie that they always should have made. Krang, Baxter Stockman, the Technodrome, Casey Jones, and the Turtle Mobile. Of course we have the appropriate species of villainous mutants acting exactly how villainous mutants should act.

I literally have no complaints about this movie. I highly recommend it.

I thought the rope-over-shoulder was a Euro thing.  Saw lots of people in France doing this.

I have to admit that I do the Euro blow every time I chalk up.

I think the idea is it keeps the rope out of the way so you're less likely to trip on it and deck before the first bolt. However, it looks extremely silly, it's unnecessary and it implies you're a noob.

I usually lay the rope over the top of a foot, route depending.

I tried it once and backclipped on an easy route. My fault, yes, but my story and other responses here seem to say it's one of those things that looks cooler than it actually is.

I typically just tuck a bight of rope into an unoccupied gear loop (Im a sport climber) if I need to "keep it out of my way". Ive never tried the over the shoulder thing but I do see a lot of people back clipping at the local gym.

I just reach down to near the tie-in knot and pull the rope up to clip, same as every other clip.   Or stick clip.

I'd say this is spot on!

I do, on occasion, blow chalk off my fingertips.  And every time I  do it this inner voice says "wow, that was gay, why did I do that?"

Not cool dude. Blowing chalk off your hands isn't gay, it's French. The French blow (declarative sentence).

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
