And yet your bro is standing there with his mouth agape and no helmet, no doubt waiting to gobble up the watermelon-sized piece of choss which will come down when you pull the rope.

Boissal, thank you for noticing. Patrick was at the base of Devil's advocate when I pulled the rope, for the very reason your bring up. I gave him lots of flack for not having a helmet, and this outing was a good reminder WHY he needs to buy one.

Boissal, I have seen so many parties up there this season without helmets, talk about terrifying.

I was belted on the shoulder from a good sized rock that came off on it's own...no one was above us. It happened right in this same area.

Very confusing to me, as well. Part of the blame should be put on all the climbing magazine action shots glorifying people NOT wearing helmets. It just isn't cool to be seen wearing a helmet. Many will wear a helmet biking, but not for climbing. I guess their hair doesn't look as good for the photos.
I don't even walk around the base of the walls without a helmet anymore. And I am sure I look like a dork:)

+1 on wearing the helmet even while walking around the base. I'd rather be an alive dork than a stylish corpse with an empty melon...

If only they made helmets that looked like YETI trucker hats.

Rope is on The Rise of Punk. I broke a foot hold off at the crux. Patrick was trundling golf ball to cantaloupe sized rocks from the second tree up top (circled in red). Do not veer too far left out of the crack up there- the rock is loose and brittle in spots.
