I'm dropping into SF (from Australia on a very short stop over) this weekend and was thinking of rental a bouldering pad (v18rentals) and heading out to Yosemite; Friday midday-ish to Sunday afternoon (will have shoes and a harness only). Anyone got advice on whether its ok with the wildfires around to boulder around the valley? Is it too hot to boulder?

We were bouldering in Tuolumne Meadows last weekend and it was fine. It was a bit hot but no notice of the fire up there and lot of great swimming holes around to cool off in after a session. Camping is definitely an issue if you don't already have reservations.

2nding the recommendation for Tahoe. Donner summit/Donner pass road and the surrounding area off of I80 (castle peak, summit lake, etc.)  has a ton to offer as well and is even closer to San Francisco. Both are less of a drive, less crowds, easy/free camping. Plus Tahoe is awesome when you want to relax.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
