Hey all,

I recently found someone selling some gear that I want, but I offered to make a gear trade  instead of paying for it.  How do you go about sending out the gear you are trading while making sure the other party has or will do the same?  Does one of us just have to trust the other to be true to his or her word, or is there some kind of method in which you can both be assured that the other is sending the gear as well?  I just don't want to send out the package without being sure that the other person is committed to doing the same thing.  Thanks.

I'd say meeting up in a dark alley at 2am is your next best alternative.

Could use a trusted third party to receive the gear and exchange it. That way both get received and confirmed to be correct before being forwarded onto the next person.

Maybe ask the seller what they propose.

You can trust me, bro! Both parties should send the gear to me.

You could both pay each other with Paypal and burn the fee if you really don't trust them

I traded some gear. Just sent the package out and hoped they'd do the same. Worked out fine. I look over their posts and how long they've been here. If they've sold stuff or bought stuff before and been around a few years I figure they won't want to ruin their reputation.

Same here, did 2 trades recently through MP. Trust is a dying thing...

The 3% goods and services fee for PayPal should cover you in theory. I've made several purchases here on MP and not been burned, but I use the G+S option if the seller is newer on MP or something seems off. Many of the more experienced sellers here can provide references. Hope this helps.
