I was planning on going to out to linville April 8th weekend for some climbing, but recently with all the news about the fire have been reconsidering. Anyone know the status of the fire and the accessibility of climbing near shortoff mountain? Much appreciated.

shortoff is currently closed, but word on the street is that they might reopen everything by this weekend

Not just Shortoff, currently everything South of Table Rock is closed, including the NC Wall, Amphitheater, Chimneys, Shortoff. All the trails in those areas are closed to everyone. I haven't heard an official opening date yet, but I have heard the rumors of possibly this weekend, I would be surprised if at least some areas were not reopened by the 8th. We keep the closures page up-to-date on the CCC site and you can check the USFS in NC Facebook and web pages for details as well.

That's really sad. I had not realized the extent of the fire. Linville Gorge is a very special place in the world. The folks at the Outward Bound basecamp at Table Rock likely could fill you in on access.
