Ahh you're talking my language.

Rui, thank you for your clarification. Sorry for jumping on you yesterday. I am a little frustrated by the access situation, of course. This is a significant period of time for these approaches to be closed, and I really doubt there is construction work occurring during the whole time.

The FCC has posted the trail closure information on the News & Events section of the website including alternate approaches. The alternate approaches to both formations skirt Raptor Closures, but you need to be aware of the closure boundaries to avoid conflicts.

The good news is that the trail repairs are being completed at a good pace and might not take the full six months to finish.

It's already been 6 months, I'm not sure what you are talking about but I have photos from september 7 showing the closure.

  • Correction the September 7 post states closure starts oct 3. So it has almost been 6 months.

The current trail closures are in effect since January 23, 2017. The closures are taking place in phases to minimize impact and the anticipated timeline is weather permitting.

Other than on March 10, the previous time I was at Overhang was on September 5 and trail access was completely open from NCAR.

I do not have the exact details of what was closed between September and January, but the Bear Canyon website indicates that the project was started on November 28.

Just a note for whoever heads up - the nut size for Triplex is M10 with 1.5 pitch. They have plated ones at Home Depot, although chances are that if it's Triplex it's probably stainless (they did make Triplex in plated, I have some gold colored ones). Anyway with the dry climate plated nuts are not a big deal on a stainless Triplex. Don't overtorque! I would bring locktite as well, since if one nut unscrewed then another can.

Easily available nut that will fit Triplex - this is NOT stainless though.

Thanks for the bolt specifications info Greg! I'll update if I'm the one up there next.
