Saw some pictures from last week and it looked good but I heard that it has been warm down there. Was up skiing and by Hallet last week and the chimney looked interesting.

Thanks Mike. Is there ice over the lower rock band?
It looks pretty grim for Telluride. Melty. Sleety.

Nice and fat in Bear Creek Canyon, ice was bullet hard but starting to get warm in the area.

Anyone have any info about wolf creek pass? It seems to be staying relatively cold there.

I drove around CO looking for good ice a week ago 2/12. below was my assessment at that point (toward the end of that warm spell).

Vail: rock = in, amphitheater ice wasn't worth it. pretty heavy water flowing on top and underneath ice

Redstone: Completely out

Ouray: ice park closed and nearly everything below 9,000 ft. is out but most above 10,000 is still good to go.

Silverton: Shaded climbs above 10,000 are good to go including Dukes of Hazard.

Wolf Creek: Looked miserable from the road. Chain station, and everything in Wolf creek canyon were all rotten. Treasure was melted out as well.

Telluride: Ice hose looked like it had pretty good color from the road as of 2/19.

bear creek is in Telluride

Has anyone been up to Lincoln Falls lately? How's it hanging in there?

How about Lake City?

Lake city ice park is still decent as of 2/24. All climbs toward Sherman were out (cottonwood creek). The lower part of Sherman climb looked good but with high avalanche danger.

Group Use - Hidden Falls - Sunday, March 5th

A friendly heads up that I will be instructing a group of 6 CSU students under our permit at Hidden Falls, this Sunday, March 5th. We will be taking steps to reduce our impact on the crag. Feel free to introduce yourself to me, and I am open to sharing ropes.

Jewel Lake. Center start is a little thin, but it opens up nicely above that.

Hi everyone,

A kind note to let folks know that I will be guiding a group of 5 students on an intro to ice-climbing clinic this Saturday, March 11, 2017 at Hidden Falls in Rocky Mountain National Park.

We will do our best to minimize our impact as a group and be courteous to other folks at the crag. Feel free to introduce yourself to me if you're planning on being there this Saturday, and I'm happy to share ropes that we may have up.

With care,

Thanks Japhy for letting us know. We are also planning to come with a few friends this Saturday and hope we will all be able to share the routes. The intention is to do second shift, usually some people are done by noon...Wish there was more ice in Colorado!
