Details
If you use chalk on the rock, brush it off when you are done. If you use tick marks, brush them off when you are done. Wipe your feet off prior to each climbing attempt. Excess chalk and any dirt, leaves, or mud can polish holds over time. Do not drag your pad from one climb to the next (in order to minimize erosion). And most importantly, Leave No Trace. Pick up your trash and place it in the trash cans at the trail head.
Description
The Haystack Area is located between Roadside and Upper Rock City. It encompasses all of the rock below the overlook that is outside of the no climbing zone. This area includes the bouldering area Motorcycle Rocks and the rope climbing area Greenback Wall. The namesake of the area, Haystack Rock, is off limits to climbing after it slid several feet down the hill in the spring of 2004.
Getting There
Take the Underlook Trail towards the base of the main overlook and take an unnamed trail to the left towards Haystack Rock. Continue on trails to the left without going too far downhill and you will see a small cliff facing the river, this is Greenback Wall. Continue following the trail downhill, the trail eventually passes through two large boulders, these are Motorcycle Rocks.
