Just be wary of the lows at Devil's Lake. I hiked up this past weekend hoping to boulder, and while the highs were in the 40s, everything was still in the process of melting, or was frosted.
Make sure it doesn't re-freeze at night with the low temperatures.
I did a quick lunch lap on Balanced Rock Ridge again today. It was in great condition. Balanced Rock Wall was also mostly in perfect condition with only a few notable seeps (Watermarks, et al) seeping lightly. From a distance the rest of the major south-facing formations on the East Bluff looked climbable.
As far as the trails go, I made the decision not to take microspikes with me. The only time I regretted that decision was coming down the very top of the Balanced Rock Trail, which was like a luge track in places. I think I'd bring them if I was going again tomorrow (which I might) since changing in and out of them would have cost me less time than gingerly negotiating the trail above BRW without them did.
Keep us posted on the snow if you go again this week James! We're headed up this weekend- camping with the kids, and probably don't wanna tackle approaches too treacherous so would love to hear about the CCC trail if you hike it.
(That being said- the plan so far is to hit Balanced Rock Wall - getting there at 5am, and we will probably have lots and lots of dogs, at least 30-90 kids (half of them babies), multiple sources of LOUD electronic music, top ropes on every route for convenience, and absolutely no sketchy anchors worth taking pictures of... )
I went up there again today. There is a very short kid-unfriendly section at the base of the BRT. The wall itself is actually drier today than yesterday. I doubt I'll get up the CCC this week, but I can only assume it's the same and improving.
