Description Suggest change

Blackhawk Lake Recreation Area, just west of Gov. Dodge State Park is a mini version of Gov. Dodge. There is a campground, a lake to fish in and a beach to swim at, with sandstone cliffs scattered around the property.

There is some surprisingly solid sandstone in this area, as well as many rocks that are are choss.

Note: This is DNR land, but NOT a state park. Please visit the park's website for further details such as how to purchase a park pass and other park rules: http://www.blackhawklake.com/Home.html

The boundaries of this property are complicated - if you wander off to explore, be sure you know where you are.  Much of this area is managed as a public hunting ground, so dress appropriately for each hunting season.

Getting There Suggest change

From Dodgeville, head west on US 18 to the town of Cobb.

To reach Blackhawk Point, take Hwy 80 north from Cobb, then a right on Cty. BH to enter the park.

To reach Highland Knoll, Union Grove Ridge, or Area 2, from the east side of Cobb take Sinbad Road north.  Take a left on Union Valley Rd. for Union Grove Ridge and Area 2.  For Highland Knoll, take a left on Mt. Hope Rd, then a right on Plank Rd.
