I need d to get some chains for anchors and was wondering what people recommend? I was planning on 5/16 grade 100 chain (WLL 5700 lbs) in 1' lengths so that it could be slightly adjustable to fit bolt placements. Any thoughts? Dallen
That will work but could rust fast if exposed to water. I try to avoid potential rust streaks and use either 5/16 316L chain or grade 70 transport chain in dry locations. Both chains have high working loads but I favor the stainless due to its longevity (never going to rust). The grade 70 has a burly golden zinc plating that is quite rust resistant but obnoxiously bright. I always paint it with a grey rust resistant primer before installing. Hope that helps.
I'm not super worried about rust I am placing these in a very dry location. Thanks for the info. I had not thought about the grade 70 transport chain, yes it is very bright I have a bunch of it that I use for work. Dallen
I don't remember the size number very well but make sure you get a size that is really beefy for wear and tear. Also make sure the chains are big enough that it can fit ropes up to 11mm to accommodate people with old 10ish mm ropes that have gotten fat over time. I've seen some chains that were too thin to fit even my old fatty 9.8mm rope
