Anybody know how Provo Canyon looks? Thinking about heading out tomorrow with Hackney.

Everything is fairly thin and melted out from the warm weather this week. Plenty of people out on the Apron today though, there's still enough ice to climb.

Climbed CCC yesterday. Lots of snow on the approach - wading thigh deep in some spots. Ice was good on the first pitch but some digging in the snow was required in a few spots. Upper pitch was OK, very thin at the top and I was none too confident in the attachment so I didn't lead it. Deadbolt curtain looked good from a distance but the river is not frozen and it's gonna be a pretty good snow slog to get to it. Spear of Fear had touched down in the morning but completely collapsed by the time we left.

How is the climbing at Maple, what survived? Will it be worth a trip on Sunday. Thanks.

Anyone been up to Malan's Waterfall or Willard Canyon Waterfall? A friend and I are new to Utah ice - is it reasonable to believe it might still be in after all this rain? Or would we be wasting our time?

Both Scruffy band and GWI are in bad shape. There's no way Malan's or Willard will be in. Save the gas and pollutants from the air...

Some updates on Maple Canyon. Road is plowed but quite slick.
Main road:
Roadside Couloir - Not even close
Running Man - Looked good/thin
Yellow Raptor & Skidders - Good/thin

Box Canyon:
Tennis Ball Slab - Probably goes, thin
The dagger - WI3 1st pitch is fat, dagger is coming down
Cobble Cruncher - Gone
Nothing else is in...walked back to the start of upper box canyon

Left fork:
BBhead - Good
DeepT maple - Good, 15' of M3 to anchors
Get whacked - top is melted out, not sure if it'll go
Some other shorter climbs further back are in.

Thanks Carl Smith for the update.

Santaquin has withstood the temperature changes pretty well. Squash Head, Backoff, and Get Back on It are in, and the big three are forming nicely. Lots of drips coming down in random places too.

How are things looking? Stuff in Lee Vining, CA is off the charts this season! Lots of stuff in the 'narrows' section of the approach that rarely comes in, some never, and they're fat!!

I really would like to get a good Maple session in this season? Hows it coming back after the warm temps/ rain?

GWI is hanging in there and looking decent. Scruffy band looked thin. Any Provo canyon updates ..,

Provo is coming back in fatter, Bridalveil was really wet last time I was down there this week but with colder temps next week it should be good. Stairway looked like the 5th pitch touched down again, hopefully it keeps growing.

Nice lead...Looks almost as fat as last time I climbed it, like 3 years or so ago.

Overall good conditions on the GWI today. Last pitch was a little wet. Should only be getting better the next few days with the cold temps. Below freezing tempature all day at he powerplant. Oh and came acrost this sign. Everyone got along well enough.

Anyone know if Maple Canyon Ice has rebounded?

cdec · · SLC, UT · Joined Jan 2007 · Points: 654

From what I have heard Maple is not doing so well. Better to concentrate efforts elsewhere.

GWI is choked with snow to the party ledge. Made it there on snow without swinging a tool.
Not often you have to dig out and look down on the ledge anchors.

Party ledge anchors

Top is in yuge. It's great ok.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
