happy to see the update to the petzl helmet. The original scirocco was clearly a big tech advance, but way too ugly and mushroom-like for me. |

Grivel had some cool new or updated gear. They have a metal ice screw clipper carabiner that is full strength and retails for about $14 The G20 becomes the G20+ with a replaceable front point. Their tech helmet is 6oz or something like that. New grivel ghost axe with a steel/aluminum head that is crazy light. Cilo gear has some new colors and little changes. |

Any pics besides the ones on the link at the top? |

No changes to piolets for Fall 17.
The new Vipecs are cool, but not game changing like Wildsnow reps. Well wrong, and I'd say wrong. Petzl came out with a new Sum'tec that uses a quark/nomic head and pick... My Vipec's definitely saved me a few weeks back from a LCL tear from this gnarly twisting fall that I doubt regular pintech's would have released on. And the Tecton's look freaking good, if no one else beats them to it, it'll be the first tech binding with toe and heel elasticity. Anyone else not have quotes working for them? |

The DMM vaults look nice, but at $45 a shot I'd rather risk it with plastic. If the hype from wildsnow (a pretty reliable source of info) is to be believed, its a HUGE improvement in safety (lateral release in both toe and heel), downhill binding performance and elasticity, FAR lower weight than competitors, and no compromises on usability. Plus, in the boot world, if the dead bird proclines climb anything even close to comparable with modern ice boots (and with luck other boot manufacturers will follow with competition), I think we're going to be seeing a pretty massive change in the winter mountaineering world. Skin approaches to technical ice lines and ski back to car suddenly makes some remote lines a lot more accessible and fun. I am excited. Well Nomad, after an hour long meeting with my BD rep, I think maybe it is right that there are NO changes to BD piolets. |

I love my G20s, and will welcome a replaceable front point, which negates the only real downside to the crampon for me. |

If Grivel has a similar unit for $14 retail DMM may as well discontinue the Vault. |

Sorry if an alpine heel on a tech binding doesn't impress me. I will continue to use race bindings, enjoy the weight savings, and let the backcountry masses plod along on Radicals and Vipecs.Might have been good to say BD then ;) Some people, even not if they aren't backflipping 30' cliffs, need a bit more downhill performance than race bindings can offer for most of their skiing. And all the "new" race bindings in the last few years is at best tiny shavings of weight for a stagnate technology. The new crop of fitness uphilling though is a good thing for the AT industry. |

any other links to good photos of the new stuff, would love to see the new G20+ ! |

Or those metal ice clippers |

Visited the black diamond office a few days ago. Rep told me that the fuel is finally getting a hammer for next year. |

From part II of Gear institute's coverage: Part I Part II Part III Only other thing I saw of note is a small update to the Alpinisto pack. |

Thanks for those gear institute links |

Thanks for the info !!! |

Really looks like a way to cut down manufacturing costs on the G20. Easier to just punch out two side pieces, add two bends in a brake and bolt them on vs. lining everything up in a jig and welding it. |
