One method I've seen that seems to work quite nicely is to put a short (~2") section of rubber hose on the chain link, clip the biner on, and then snug the hose down towards the end of the chain to keep the biner in place. A lot of the perma-chains at Solstice Cave in Last Chance Canyon are done this way, and it made for nice easy clipping.

Maybe wait until you can afford to do a nice job with those steel carabiners with keepers?

My two cents is that unless you're on private property owned by yourself or a friend don't leave your garbage aluminum up on routes, even if you are developing the routes. Zip ties work well but are going to add to the permenance and make it harder for a good Samaritan to switch out the biner.

Go big or go home, dude. I'd rather not see a garbage setup on a climb that's worth the time.

Methods that I have seen: -Tape -Epoxy Putty -Thin wire I know that a steel carabiner with a keeper would be ideal but a $6+ each that can be costly. Rubber ring like on a normal draw.

I've also seen shrink tubing used which looked quite effective. Of course, that would have to be done at home and then the chain put in place.

Thread drift... the climb techs are hard to clip... fixe wiregates, met wire gates are good. They are also very cheap... I use alum sometimes don't feel bad.
