Disabling/removing default e-mail me when people reply

So...this feature is driving me nuts. I keep forgetting to uncheck the box before submitting, so my mailbox ends up getting swamped, especially on the 10 pagers. I still want to receive messages from users and occasionally subscribe (e.g when finding partners), but I'd prefer this feature to remain off by default rather than on. Is this possible?

If I reply from my computer or tablet, I can unchecked the box and it's all fine. If I reply on my phone through the app, it doesn't matter if I check the box or not, I'll get an email when people reply. Even stranger, if I reply through the app, I don't get the red box at the top of the screen to let me know someone replied.

It's a minor annoyance to me since my linked email is used only for spam, shopping, and mountain project, not the one I use daily.

Yeah, my main concern is when personal messages from other users get buried under all of the spam.
